Jon
Lu
2006–2010: Professor in Sediment Dynamics, University of Plymouth, UK
Led and co-led several major coastal and sediment dynamics research projects, focusing on storm impacts, coastal flooding, and seabed processes.
Key Projects:
BARDEX I & II: Studied barrier dynamics (gravel and sand) using large-scale experiments (EU-funded, ~£1.45M total).
MICORE: Assessed coastal risks from extreme events (UK lead, £3.5M).
WHISSP: Investigated effects of Wave Hub on seabed and shoreline (£600K).
CoFEE: Explored coastal flooding from extreme weather (PI, £870K).
NUPSIG: Predicted storm impacts on gravel beaches (Co-I, £450K).
1986–2006: Research Scientist, NERC (UK Natural Environment Research Council)
Conducted pioneering research on coastal evolution, sediment transport, and inlet dynamics across Europe and the US.
Key Projects:
FORCE: Forecasted coastal and sediment changes (NERC, £1.4M).
MUDEX: Studied wave behaviour over muddy sea beds (NERC/ONR, £1.1M).
CHaMPS & INDIA: Managed coastal habitats and inlet dynamics (EU-funded, ~£3M combined).
Deltaflume I & II: Investigated sediment resuspension and bedforms under wave action (EU-funded, ~£730K).
CAMELOT & CSTAB: Modelled long-term coastal processes and sediment transport (EU/MAFF, ~£1.7M).
Other studies: Included projects on sand banks, barchan dunes, and gravel dynamics in rivers.
